Bach & Weiss - Lute Music (Carpe Diem)

A luthier builds an instrument, but it is the performer who makes it into a masterpiece by infusing it with a soul“, erklärt Satoh. „Plenty of souls of past lutenists dwell in this Greiff, and those lutenists made it a masterpiece. I believe it that I can come closer to the spiritual state og nothingness (= infinity) if I am in sympathy with those souls.“
Satoh führt in seinem Spiel europäische Brillanz und fernöstliches Denken zusammen: „Bach's music demands not only a high level of technique but also a high level of spirituality. Young players, including myself in my early days, tend to play only with abundant enthusiasm, so der Laute- nistOnly when I turned 70 did I realize that the greater spirituality the music contains, the more necessary it becomes for the performer to expose his natural self to the music, something that I strived for in this recording.“ Sein Musizieren beeindruckt durch Ausdruck und eine Intensität, die ich so nie zuvor gehört habe. Phänomenal – unbedingt anhören!
